Achieving and Sustaining Increased Immunization Coverage
In Madagascar, Health Systems 20/20 has helped the Ministry of Health finalize their Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) application. The role of Health Systems 20/20 was to facilitate the development of the proposal by helping the Health Systems Strengthening Task Force select a set of HSS activities, integrate feedback received, and help carry out the validation process of the proposal by the Government of Madagascar, donor partners, and civil society.
More specifically, the work included identifying barriers to improving immunization coverage, identifying barriers that were not being adequately addressed that required additional support from GAVI HSS, proposing a set of objectives and activities for GAVI HSS support, proposing indicators for each objective and activity for monitoring and evaluation, developing a budget, and specifying the implementation arrangement. Furthermore, Health Systems 20/20 helped organize consensus meetings to obtain proposal buy-in and approval with the vice-minister of Health and Family Planning and the Senior Committee for Child Survival which includes the Madagascar Ministry of Health and a large group of stakeholders (USAID, WHO, AFD, GTZ, JICA, UNICEF, civil society, etc.).
