August 4, 2008 — The USAID-funded Health Systems 20/20 project is pleased to announce that HIV/AIDS and health systems expert Ann Lion Coleman has assumed the position of Health Systems 20/20 Project Director, effective today. Health Systems 20/20 is the USAID Bureau of Global Health's flagship project working to strengthen health systems by using an integrated approach to address the financing, governance, operational, and capacity constraints to further the use of life-saving priority health services. The project is implemented by a consortium of partners led by Abt Associates Inc.

Mutual health organizations (MHOs) are voluntary membership organizations providing health insurance services to their members. MHOs aim to increase access to health care by reducing out-of-pocket payments faced by households. Jointly with the Point-of-Service Water Disinfection and Zinc Treatment (POUZN) project, Health Systems 20/20 launched a pilot program February 13, 2008 in Nyagatare District to promote and distribute the Sûr’Eau water product in the Eastern Province of Rwanda, capitalizing on well established community-based health insurance (CBHI or mutuelle de santé) organization channels and membership in the area. The CBHI 2007 enrollment rate in the District of Nyagatare is 81%. More...
